Indeed, Tamim: every forefather, before its forefather,

bows his breast before the crusher of forefathers,

a proud lord indeed—were he to lay upon Yadhbul's flank

his hands, its great rocks would then tumble down from it.

And I do often drive my adversary to his utmost effort,

even if his fierce men and crafty champions are many.

And it has greyed me that some conjectured utterance is always

passed on in speech, so lightly carried:

someone else made it up for another like himself,

yet my head is pelted with it, while its speaker is left alone.

So I do not appease everyone who suspects me,

nor do I kill everyone who has feared me.

I see everyone who has prayed praying behind us,

and every boy born this year, in the year to come,

a leader for us, one of our own; you see every seeker

among the people, with his fingertips [outstretched] toward him.
