If I live, poems from me will come to you,
You will receive poems from me, if I live,
whose artful composition every poet will fall short of matching.
That every speaker falls short of composing.

Through them, ancestral honors shine when they are heard,
When heard, minds are illuminated by them,
when each person's merit in action is reckoned.
When the superiority of the deed is counted by every doer.

And you are a man of firm determination,
even the reach of one stretching high cannot attain.
Which the outstretched hand of the ambitious falls short of.

They gave your father as hostage on their behalf, for his superiority
They have pledged your father due to his virtue,
over his people—and truth's features are plain.
Over his people, and the truth is evident to the discerners.

Had they known the most faithful to protecting their blood,
and more clearly meritorious in those noble deeds,

They would have from your father Al-Mustafa, feared with it,
from Kisra's spearheads on the day the tribes gave hostages.
The hacking swords on the day of pledging allegiance.

You defended Ma'add on the day of Kisra, son of Hurmuz,
You protected Ma’add on the day of Kisra the son of Hormuz
with a decisive blow that straightened all that leaned awry.
With a decisive strike that straightened every leaning.

You triumphed at Dhi Qar, and its condition has remained,
You conquered Dhi Qar, so its affair has not ceased
to this day, that of one humbled and diminished.
To this day, the affair of the humble submissive one.

On Dhi Qar's pebbly plain, on the morning there came to you
With the plain of Dhi Qar when the tribes came to you
tribes of a massed host, tribe following tribe.
Following the example of other tribes.

And you had virtues through which you surpassed
to every barefoot and shod man of Ma'add.
Every protector from Ma’add and Naeel.

To the glory of noble deeds and lofty honors you were raised
Houses carried you to the glory of virtues and exaltation,
by houses to which honor turns when refuge is sought.
To which honor belongs during sieges.

Among them is the house of Hawazin, through which
Bakr blunts the points of the archer's arrows.
Bakr excels the skill of the warrior.

And the house of Muthanna, who frustrated the elephants,
at Babylon, when Babylon's sovereignty lay in Persia.
In Babylon, when Babylon was ruled by Persia.
