إِن يَكُ خالُها مِن آلِ كِسرى

إِن يَكُ خالُها مِن آلِ كِسرى

فَكِسرى كانَ خَيراً مِن عِقالِ

فَكِسرى كانَ خَيراً مِن عِقالِ

If her maternal uncle is of the house of Khosrow,

If her birthmark is from the family of Chosroes

then Khosrow was better than ʿIqāl,

Then Chosroes was better than reason

وَأَعظَمُ غُنيَةً في كُلِّ يَومٍ

وَأَعظَمُ غُنيَةً في كُلِّ يَومٍ

وَأَصدَقُ عِندَ مُختَلِفِ القِتالِ

وَأَصدَقُ عِندَ مُختَلِفِ القِتالِ

and of greater benefit every day,

And the greatest spoils every day

and more steadfast in the clash of battle.

And the most truthful in the discord of battle
