وَهَلand is هُوَit مَقدورٌdecreed لِنَفسٍfor a soul لِقاؤُهاmeeting her
وَهَل هُوَ مَقدورٌ لِنَفسٍ لِقاؤُها
I spend the night giving my soul hope that we shall meet.
I refused the wishes of my soul that we will meet
And is meeting her decreed for a soul?
And is it possible for a soul to meet whom it desires?
وَإِنand if أَلقَهاI meet her أَوor يَجمَعِbrings together اللَهُGod بَينَناbetween us
وَإِن أَلقَها أَو يَجمَعِ اللَهُ بَينَنا
فَفيهاthen in her شِفاءُthe cure of النَفسِthe soul مِنّيof mine وَداؤُهاand its ailment
فَفيها شِفاءُ النَفسِ مِنّي وَداؤُها
And if I meet her, or God brings us together,
And if it meets or God unites us
Then in her lie my soul's cure and its ailment.
Then in it is the cure of my soul and its ailment

I look to the Commander of the Faithful for a need
I hope, O Commander of the Faithful, for a need
Whose fulfillment, after God, is hoped for at your two hands.
Through your hands, after God is hoped its fulfillment

From the earth revives the dead of barrenness its water

Both your fathers drew the sword of a united host
Both your fathers unsheathed the swords of a group
Against young men whose women miscarry their sons.
Against young men, their wives meet their sons

It was not sheathed until their hearts repented,
So it was not sheathed until their hearts relented
And their blood yielded freely to Syrian blows.
And the Syrian was allowed the blow, their blood shed

Truly fine is the people's campsite: they unfastened their saddles
For the goodness of the people's place of stay, they unpacked
At a dome whose sky rises above al-Walid.
To a dome above al-Walid is its sky

And Yusuf; its structure has touched the stars.
And Yusuf touched the stars its building

So if al-Mahdi sends to me my she-camel which

For my companions stirs up yearning its weeping

And if they send it for success, then it has walked
To you in need, and long has been her stay.
To you over epithets and prolonged its pace

And she must, if from the throng around her she sees
And that if from its burial place it saw
Passes through rocky tracts, quicken her swift flight.
Shining hills that it hastens its escape
