سَأَنعى اِبنَ لَيلى لِلَّذي راحَ بَعدَهُ

سَأَنعى اِبنَ لَيلى لِلَّذي راحَ بَعدَهُ

يُرَجّي القِرى وَالدَهرُ جَمٌّ غَوائِلُه

يُرَجّي القِرى وَالدَهرُ جَمٌّ غَوائِلُه

I shall announce Layla's son's death to whoever comes after him,

I will lament the son of Layla for him who went after him

hoping for hospitality, while time's calamities are many.

He hoped for the villages and time gathered his goals

وَكانَ الَّذي لا تُستَراثُ فُضولُهُ

وَكانَ الَّذي لا تُستَراثُ فُضولُهُ

بِخَيرٍ وَلا يَشقى بِهِ الدَهرَ نازِلُه

بِخَيرٍ وَلا يَشقى بِهِ الدَهرَ نازِلُه

And he was one whose bounty was never deemed slow

And he who was generous with his bounty

in bringing good; nor did his guest ever suffer with him.

With good, so time was not miserable for its settler

أَلا إِنَّ هَذا المَوتَ أَضحى مُسَلَّطاً

أَلا إِنَّ هَذا المَوتَ أَضحى مُسَلَّطاً

وَكُلُّ اِمرِئٍ لا بِدَّ تُرمى مَقاتِلُه

وَكُلُّ اِمرِئٍ لا بِدَّ تُرمى مَقاتِلُه

Lo, this death has indeed come to hold sway,

Lo! Verily, this death has become overwhelming

and every man's vital parts must inevitably be struck.

And every person must inevitably have their fate
