أَرىI see الدَهرَtime لاnot يُبقيspares كَريماًa noble man لِأَهلِهِfor his kin
أَرى الدَهرَ لا يُبقي كَريماً لِأَهلِهِ
وَلاnor تُحرِزُprotect اللُؤمانَthe ignoble مِنهُfrom it المَهارِبُplaces of refuge
وَلا تُحرِزُ اللُؤمانَ مِنهُ المَهارِبُ
I see that time spares no noble man for his kin;
I see time does not leave one noble for his own
nor do refuges shield the ignoble from it.
Nor can the gifted escape its sudden turns
أَرىI see كُلَّevery حَيٍّliving being مَيِّتاًdestined to die فَمُوَدِّعاًthen bidding farewell
أَرى كُلَّ حَيٍّ مَيِّتاً فَمُوَدِّعاً
وَإِنeven if عاشَhe lived دَهراًan age لَمdid not تَنُبهُbefall him النَوائِبُcalamities
وَإِن عاشَ دَهراً لَم تَنُبهُ النَوائِبُ
I see that every living being will die, then bid farewell,
I see all the living as if dead, bidding farewell
even if he lives an age untouched by calamities.
Though one lives an age, misfortunes stay asleep
