أَرىI see اِبنُson of سُلَيمٍSulaym يَعصُمُsafeguards اللَهُGod دينَهُHis religion

بِهِthrough him وَأَثافيand the hearthstones الحَربِof war تَغليboil قُدورُهاits cauldrons
I see Ibn Sulaym—God safeguards His faith
I see the son of Sulaym, may Allah protect his faith,
through him, while on war's hearthstones its cauldrons boil.
With it the cauldrons of war boil and bubble,
هُوَhe الحَجَرُthe stone الراميhurling بِهِwith it اللَهِGod مَنwhomever رَمىHe struck
إِذاwhen الأَرضُthe earth بِالناسِwith people اِقشَعَرَّتbristled ظُهورُهاits backs
He is the stone with which God strikes whomever He strikes,
He is the stone thrower with whom Allah strikes whom He will,
when the earth's backs bristle with people.
When the earth quakes before men their backs all dapple.
وَكانَand was إِذاwhenever أَرضُthe land of العَدُوِّthe enemy تَنَكَّرَتturned hostile

And whenever the enemy's land turned hostile,
And whenever the enemy's land denied its nurture,
then Ibn Sulaym would be hurled against its defiance.
It was by the son of Sulaym it suffered its trouble.

You see the horses refuse to submit to any rider,
You see horses refuse to be humbled by any rider
save Ibn Sulaym, to whom their stallions yield in battle.
Save the son of Sulaym, for in the fray he's their marvel.

And a Roman host, with death in its midst, you struck
A Rome-town he struck, and in it death did dwell,
with a steel-gray host whose mail-rivets dazzle onlookers.
By starry night its watcher's lamp he would dapple.

And on the day Babylon's cavalry clashed with spears,
And the day the steeds of Babylon met with spears
in battalions whose growling had bared their teeth,
Squadrons that roared, their mail all a-dazzle.

you won them victory with the sword, as the horses clashed,
With sword they opened for them, as the horses crashed together,
their chests, from both sides, meeting in mortal combat.
Embracing death, both sides locked in their grapple.

You see his horses after the battle, now
You see, when the fray was done, his steeds wandered
wounded in their necks and breasts.
With blood-stained necks and chests, all mottled and splotchèd.
وَإِنّاand indeed we وَكَلباًand Kalb إِخوَةٌbrothers بَينَناbetween us عُرىbonds

And we and Kalb are brothers; between us are bonds
We two are brothers, between us bonds from that knot
of a covenant, its strands drawn tight by him who twists them.
Which no strength can untie, no change shuffle.
تُخاضُare waded مِياهٌwaters لاno غُمورَdepths لِمائِهاto their water

Waters with no depth to them may be waded,
We cross waters with no depths to wet their beds,
but Kalb's seas cannot be waded.
But as hounds do, nor can seas make us stumble.
فَمَنso whoever يَأتِناcomes to us يَرجوhopes for تَفَرُّقَdivision بَينَناbetween us

So whoever comes to us hoping to divide us
So let him who'd divide us, keeping us apart,
will face mountains whose rugged slopes bar the way to that.
Meet mountains, not us, for we'll make their peaks crumble!

Two allies in Islam and truth; their affairs are referred
Allies in Islam and truth, our affairs will incline
to Ibn Sulaym, with fidelity.
To the son of Sulaym in loyalty's channel.
هُوَhe الحازِمُthe resolute one المَيمونُthe blessed one فيin كُلِّevery وَقعَةٍbattle

He is resolute and blessed in every battle;
He's the wise and auspicious one in every battle,
its herald bears him glad tidings when swords are drawn.
When swords are bared, for him do glories redouble.

We grant protection binding on Kalb, so our protection is upheld;
Our pact as hounds is announced by our baying call,
and Kalb's protector makes pledges binding on us.
Tying us to Sulaym, no secret nor subtle.
