I raised my spearhead away from Hawāzin when she drew near,
I raised my spear against the Huwazin when they advanced,
and every archer's sharpened arrows abandoned her.
And submitted them, despite the efforts of their valiant warriors,

And the bowstrings were loosened, since for them there was no
The bowstrings were loosened, for they were no match
archery contest for an archer whose piercing arrows had crushed her skull.
Against warriors whose steeds trampled them.
لَقَدsurely عَلِمَتshe learned عَيلانُʿAylān أَنَّthat الَّذيthe one whom رَسَتshe settled on
لَقَد عَلِمَت عَيلانُ أَنَّ الَّذي رَسَت
لَئيمٌbase وَأَنَّand that العيرَthe ass قَدalready فُلَّwas blunted حافِرُهits hoof
لَئيمٌ وَأَنَّ العيرَ قَد فُلَّ حافِرُه
ʿAylān has surely learned that the one she settled on
The people of Ailan knew well that the one who arrived
is base, and that the ass's hoof has been blunted.
Was vile, and that his caravan had lost its lead camel,
وَكُلُّand every أُناسٍpeople فيهِمُamong them مِنof مُلوكِناour kings
وَكُلُّ أُناسٍ فيهِمُ مِن مُلوكِنا

لَهُم رَبُّ صِدقٍ وَالخَليفَةُ قاهِرُه
And every people with some of our kings among them
And every tribe among them, including our kings
has a worthy lord, and the caliph holds him in subjection.
Have a Lord of Truth, and a victorious Caliph,
وَإِنّيand indeed I لَوَثّابٌsurely a leaper إِلىtoward المَجدِglory دونَهُbefore it
وَإِنّي لَوَثّابٌ إِلى المَجدِ دونَهُ

مِنَ الوَعثِ أَو ضيقِ المَكانِ نَهابِرُه
And I am indeed a leaper toward glory, though before it
And I strive towards glory, heedless of fatigue
lie its perilous pits, in soft ground or narrow places.
Or confining spaces that would hinder progress,

And from among us is God's Messenger, sent with guidance,
And among us is Allah's Messenger, sent with guidance
and his marvels came with truth and certainty.
And with truth came the decisive revelations.
