أُبادِرُI hasten ahead of شَوّالاًShawwal بِظَبيَةَwith Ẓabya إِنَّنيindeed I
أَتَتنيcame to me بِهاwith her الأَهواءُthe passions مِنfrom كُلِّevery جانِبِside
I hasten ahead of Shawwal with Ẓabya; indeed,
I hasten to Shawwal with a gazelle
Passions have brought her to me from every side—
The winds have brought her to me from all directions
بِمالِئَةِwith one who fills الحِجلَينِboth anklets لَوif أَنَّthat مَيِّتاًa dead man
وَإِنand even if كانَhe was فيin الأَكفانِthe shrouds تَحتَbeneath النَصائِبِthe gravestones
With one who fills both anklets: if a dead man,
With her thighs fully fleshed, if she called a dead man -
Even though he lay in shrouds beneath the gravestones,
Even if he were in his shroud beneath the tombstones -
دَعَتهُshe called him لِأَلقىwould fling التُربَthe earth عَنهُoff him اِنتِفاضَهُhis stirring
وَلَوand even if كانَhe was تَحتَbeneath الراسِياتِthe firmly rooted mountains الرَواسِبِthe deep-set ones
Were called by her, his stirring would fling the earth off him,
He would shake off the dust to go to her
Even if he lay beneath firmly rooted, deep-set mountains.
Even if he were beneath firmly lodged stones.
