How can we fear poverty, O Tayb, now that
How can we fear poverty, O virtuous one, after
the decrees of his fate have brought us Nasr from Herat?
Victory has come to us from the decrees of fate?
وَإِنand if يَأتِناhe comes to us نَصرٌNasr مِنَfrom التُركِthe Turks سالِماًunharmed

And if Nasr comes to us safe from the Turks,
And if victory comes to us from the Turks unharmed,
then, after Nasr, there is no absent man I await.
Then, after this absent victory, I am its awaiter.

I awaited Nasr and the two Simak stars, to see which of the two
I awaited victory while the Two Seas - which of them
would have its rain-clouds pour rain upon me.
Would rain down victory upon me from its clouds?

He advanced like a sword from a resolute man's hand,
It passed like the flash of a sword in a resolute hand
to tackle the matter, when its ways out narrowed for us.
When its means were straitened against us.

Whenever Nasr refuses, Khindif refuses for him,
If victory refuses, so does Khindif refuse it,
and mighty is whoever has Nasr as his defender when afraid.
And he whose victory fears grows mighty.

When Ibn Sayyar called on Khindif, whose

Bracelets were the proudest of the Two Easts,

She came to him on the barren hills, over them
are their coats of Solomon's mail and his helmets.
Were Solomon’s coats of mail and their forgiveness.

I see that the people's lord is one of us, when there meet
I see people taking us for their Lord when
at Zamzam the riders of Najd and its lowlands.
The riders of Najd and its ravines meet at Zamzam.
لَناours كُلُّevery بِطريقٍpatrician إِذاwhen قامَhe rose لَمdid not يَقُمrise
مِنَfrom among الناسِthe people إِلّاexcept قائِمٌone standing هُوَhe آمِرُهhis commander
Every patrician is ours; when he rises, no one rises
Each of us, when he stands, none else stands
among the people except one whom he commands.
Of the people except he who commands him.

He is the sovereign, the rightly guided, the foremost, who
He is the King, the Mahdi, and the foremost
holds the beginning and the end of ancestral glory.
To whom belongs the first and last glory.
تَنَظَّرتُI awaited نَصراًNasr أَنto يَجيءَhe comes وَإِنand if يَجِئhe comes
فَإِنّيthen I am indeed كَمَنlike one whose قَدindeed مَرَّpassed بِالسَعدِwith good fortune طائِرُهhis omen-bird
I awaited Nasr's coming; and if he comes,
I awaited victory in hopes it would come, and if it comes
then I am like one whose omen-bird has flown with good fortune.
Then I am like one fortune’s bird has passed over.
رَجَوتُI hoped for نَدىbounty نَصرٍNasr وَدونَand before يَمينِهِhis right hand
فُراتانِtwo Euphrates وَالطافيand the floating بِبَلخٍat Balkh قَراقِرُهits large ships
I hoped for Nasr's bounty, though between me and his right hand
I hoped for the dew of victory, and below its right side
lie two Euphrates, and the stream whose large ships float at Balkh.
Are the Euphrates and Tigris flowing through Balkh.
فَأَصبَحتُso I became أَعطىthe most generous الناسِof people لِلخَيرِfor goodness وَالقِرىand hospitality

So I became the most generous of people in goodness and hospitality,
I have become the most generous of people to goodness and towns
at his expense, for guests and a neighbor living beside him.
With hospitality to guests and neighborly friendship.

Have you not seen how, for whoever chooses Nasr, there flies
Have you not seen that he who chooses victory finds
his omen-bird with good fortune, under auspicious Sa'd al-Su'ud?
The good fortune of bliss chase its bird over him?
