عَلى هَضيمَتِهِ مَن لَيسَ يَنتَصِفُ
Indeed, we grant justice against ourselves—even after gaining the power
We surely grant redress against ourselves, even after gaining power
to wrong him—to one unable to win redress.
To wrong the man who cannot win redress for himself.
وَنَمنَعُand we withhold النَصفَjustice ذاthe man with الأَنفِthe nose الأَشَمِّlofty إِذاwhen

Yet we deny justice to the man of lofty, haughty pride whenever
And we deny justice to the man of the lofty nose, when
humbling him means glory and proud honor.
Humbling him brings honor and proud self-respect.
وَنَكتَفيand we content ourselves مِنinstead of سِواناothers besides us فيin الحُروبِwars بِناwith ourselves
وَنَكتَفي مِن سِوانا في الحُروبِ بِنا
إِذاwhen تَداعىsummoned one another عَلَيناagainst us الناسُthe people فَأتَلَفواand so they united
إِذا تَداعى عَلَينا الناسُ فَأتَلَفوا
In war, we ourselves suffice, needing no one besides us,
And in wars we rely on ourselves, not on others,
when all the people rally against us and join forces.
When people summon one another against us and unite.

Tamim grew mighty through God’s might and stood unrivaled;
Tamim grew mighty through God's might and stood alone;
the people feared its fierce onslaught and scattered apart.
And people feared its harm, and so split apart.
