أَرىI see اِبنُson of سُلَيمٍSulaym لَيسَdoes not تَنهَضُride out خَيلُهُhis cavalry
أَرى اِبنُ سُلَيمٍ لَيسَ تَنهَضُ خَيلُهُ
إِلىto فِتنَةٍa conflict إِلّاexcept that أَصابَhe found اِحتِيالَهاthe stratagem for it
إِلى فِتنَةٍ إِلّا أَصابَ اِحتِيالَها
I see Ibn Sulaym: his cavalry never rides out
to a conflict without his finding the right stratagem for it.
وَكَمand many a غارَةٍraid بِالرومِagainst the Romans أَصبَحتَyou rose at dawn تَبتَغيseeking
وَكَم غارَةٍ بِالرومِ أَصبَحتَ تَبتَغي
بِكَفَّيكَwith your two hands مِنهاfrom it فيأَهاits spoils وَقِتالَهاand its combat
بِكَفَّيكَ مِنها فيأَها وَقِتالَها
And on many a raid against the Romans you have risen seeking
with your own two hands its spoils and its combat.
إِذاwhen أَصبَحَتshe became أُمُّthe mother of المَناياdeaths مُقيمَةًsettled
إِذا أَصبَحَت أُمُّ المَنايا مُقيمَةً
بِمُعتَرَكٍon a battlefield زَلجٍslippery أَزالَhe dislodged زَوالَهاher departure
بِمُعتَرَكٍ زَلجٍ أَزالَ زَوالَها
When the mother of deaths has settled
on a slippery battlefield, he brings about her departure.
أَرىI see اِبنَson of سُلَيمٍSulaym جَرَّدَhe unsheathed الحَربَwar وَالقَناand the spears
أَرى اِبنَ سُلَيمٍ جَرَّدَ الحَربَ وَالقَنا
وَأَذكىand he kindled بِنيرانِwith the fires of الحُروبِwars اِشتِعالَهاits blaze
وَأَذكى بِنيرانِ الحُروبِ اِشتِعالَها
I see Ibn Sulaym has unleashed war and bared the spears,
and stoked its blaze with the fires of wars.
وَإِخوَتُناand our brothers كَلبٌKalb وَنَحنُand we أَخوهُمُtheir brother
وَإِخوَتُنا كَلبٌ وَنَحنُ أَخوهُمُ
نَشُدُّwe tighten وَنَبنيand we build بِالوَفاءِthrough loyalty حِبالَهاits cords
نَشُدُّ وَنَبني بِالوَفاءِ حِبالَها
And our brothers are Kalb, and we are theirs;
we tighten and build up its bonds through loyalty.
