We suffered a blow that, had it struck Salma,
would have shattered her; yet Darim bears the calamity.
كَأَنَّهُمُas though they were تَحتَbeneath الخَوافِقِthe fluttering banners إِذwhen مَشَواthey marched
إِلىtoward المَوتِdeath أُسدُlions الغابَتَينِthe two forests الضَراغِمُthe fierce lions
They seemed, beneath the fluttering banners, as they marched
toward death, like the fierce lions of the two forests.
إِذاwhen كَفَّتِhold back العَينانِthe two eyes جارِيَthe flowing of دَمعِهاtheir tears

When the two eyes hold back their flowing tears,
a raging fire blazes within your heart.
