And when you look, you see Darim above you,
In the sky, where eyesight fails.

Indeed, a seasoned fighter turns on the base man when he hopes
For respite from me—ever returning to the charge.

Indeed I revile you: your people have no
Ancestral honor to equal ours, nor men of rank.

Can a people ever be matched with your burrow—
Theirs the sky above you, and the rivers?

And the noblest when their ancestral honor is reckoned,
And the most numerous when multitudes are counted.

And against you, when the great bull-camels strut, they have
A fierce sire, untamed, proudly lashing his tail.
وَلَهُمand they have عَلَيكَagainst you إِذاwhen الفُحولُthe breeding males تَدافَعَتthrust against one another

And against you, when the sires clash, they have
Deep seas whose waves engulf you.

A people who, when they don their armor, repel
The wrath of kings and protect the rear.

A battle protected the women of Dabba's clan,
And, for Sa'd's clan, a battle at daybreak.

Ask which horsemen, on the morning of Jadud,
Protected the women as they cried aloud for refuge.

And the horses were grim-faced, their shoulders covered
With spurts soaking their chests, and with dust.

Indeed, by your mother, our steeds remain
Ever lean-flanked, worn thin by raids.

Lean-bellied; by us, by them, and by the spears is repelled
The enemy's rancor, and blood-debts are settled.

How many a king have they trampled, and how many a commoner
Have they freed, with bonds about his forearms!

His ransom was the points of our spears,
And the horses, when the stirred-up dust billowed.

Rise with the noblest whom Nizar can count.
