وَحاجَةٍand many a longing لاnot يَراهاsee it الناسُpeople أَكتُمُهاI conceal it
بَينَbetween الجَوانِحِthe ribs لَوif يَرمىwere struck بِهاwith it الجَبَلُthe mountain
And many a longing, unseen by people, I conceal
Between my ribs; were a mountain struck with it,
لَظَلَّit would remain يَحسِبُthinking أَنَّthat الأَرضَthe earth قَدalready حَمَلَتhad lifted
قُترَيهِits two sides لَمّاwhen عَلاmounted upon عُرضِيَّهُits flank الثِقَلُthe weight
It would keep thinking that the earth had lifted
Its two sides, when the weight mounted upon its flank.
