Surely Falj and its two desert plains, if I traveled through them,

would be dearer to us than Dujayl, and better.

And a mount they have accustomed me to riding,

though I was no frequent rider of her when she set out.

    وَتَحمِلُ مَن فيها قُعوداً وَتُحمَلُ

    Her legs are men's hands when she takes her course;

she carries those aboard her seated, and is herself carried.

When the billows meet her, they are cleft

by her breast, which never rests, and her chest.

When they raise the sail aboard her, she is like

a young hen ostrich, or a tall, sturdy cock ostrich.

She seeks Ibn Abd Allah; toward him she has set her course.

When he speaks, he speaks what is right, and acts.

When they raise their wagers above a hundred,

he reaches the finishing posts in first place.

By my life, saving lives that have drawn near

to death is better than giving two old she-camels.

He rescued me from a chasm that had tossed

my feet about, with no foothold on its sides.

Lo, everything is in God's hand; there comes

to each an appointed end, never shifted from its day.

And indeed, whoever presumes upon God is lost,

but God will save whoever trusts in Him.

Things are made plain—their secrets are not hidden from God—

by nights and days that hold sway over people in turn.

The thing you do not know is made clear to you

by one who knows it well, when you ask.

Lo, every soul will be followed

by the written decree with its appointed time, until the day they meet.
