وَكانَand was لَهاfor them ماءُthe water of الكَواظِمِal-Kawazim غُرَّةًa moment of heedlessness
وَحَربُand war with تَميمٍTamim ذاتُpossessing خَبلٍruin مِنَof الخَبلِruin
And the waters of al-Kawazim caught them unawares,
And war with Tamim brings grievous ruin.
فَماso not رِمتُمُyou departed حَتّىuntil لَقيتُمyou met حِمامَكُمyour death
وَآبَand returned مُوَلّوكُمyour retreating men فِراراًfleeing مِنَfrom القَتلِslaughter
So you did not depart until you met your death,
And your retreating men returned, fleeing slaughter.
