أَظُنُّI think اِبنَthe son of عيسىIsa لاقِياًencountering مِثلَthe like of وَقعَةًa blow
بِعَمروِupon Amr بنِson of عِفرىIfra وَهيَand it is قاصِمَةُbreaking الظَهرِthe back
I think Ibn Isa will face a blow like the one
that befell Amr ibn Ifra—a back-breaking blow.
تَقَوَّفَhe seized مالَthe wealth of اِبنَيthe two sons of حُجَيرٍHujayr وَماand not هُماthe two of them
بِذيone afflicted with حَطمَةٍdecrepitude فانٍdying وَلاnor ضَرَعٍa weak youth غُمرِinexperienced
He seized the wealth of Hujayr’s two sons, and neither of them
is a decrepit, dying old man or a weak, inexperienced youth.
وَلَكِنand yet هُماthe two of them اِبنُa man of الأَربَعينَforty years قَدِalready اِلتَقَتhave come together
أَنايِبُهُhis fangs مِنof ذيa man of حُروبٍwars عَلىat ثَغرِa frontier
But each is forty years old; together have come
his fangs—those of a man of wars at a frontier.
