أَبلِغ بَني بَكرٍ إِذا ما لَقيتَهُم

أَبلِغ بَني بَكرٍ إِذا ما لَقيتَهُم

وَمَن فيهُمُ مِن مُلزَقٍ أَو مُعَلهَجِ

وَمَن فيهُمُ مِن مُلزَقٍ أَو مُعَلهَجِ

Tell the sons of Bakr, whenever you meet them,

and whoever among them is grafted in or of mixed descent,

بِأَنّي أَذُمُّ العافِقِيَّ إِلَيكُمُ

بِأَنّي أَذُمُّ العافِقِيَّ إِلَيكُمُ

وَوالِبَةَ الكَلبَ الهَجينَ اِبنَ حَشرَجِ

وَوالِبَةَ الكَلبَ الهَجينَ اِبنَ حَشرَجِ

that I denounce al-ʿAfiqi to you,

and Waliba, the mongrel dog, son of Hashraj.

حَسِبناهُما مِنكُم فَقَد أَخرَجَتهُما

حَسِبناهُما مِنكُم فَقَد أَخرَجَتهُما

عَجوزاهُما مِنكُم إِلى شَرِّ مَخرَجِ

عَجوزاهُما مِنكُم إِلى شَرِّ مَخرَجِ

We had reckoned them both among you, but they have been cast out

by their two old mothers, from your midst to the worst of ends.
