وَمَنand who لِمِراسِfor grappling with الحَربِwar بَعدَafter وَكيعِWakīʿ
For Abū Sūd my tears overflow.
My dark father, my tears overflow
And who will grapple with war after Wakīʿ?
And who now for the lances of war after Wakie
لَقَدindeed كانَhe was قَوّادَa leader of الجِيادِthe steeds إِلىinto الوَغىthe fray
عَلَيهِنَّupon them غابٌa forest مِنof قَناًlances وَدُروعِand coats of mail
Indeed, he led the steeds into the fray,
He led the steeds to the fray
Upon them a forest of lances and coats of mail.
Over them a forest of lances and coats of mail

لَقَدindeed كانَhe was لِلأَحسابِof ancestral honor غَيرَnot مُضيعِneglectful
Tamīm says, after they were bereaved of him:
Tamim says, after they lost him
Indeed, he was never neglectful of ancestral honor.
He was not one to waste the days
