When I saw generosity spurring on its steeds
toward a prize that tests every swift runner,
Towards peril whereby every coward turns and flees,

I praised a generous man whose house stands between Sayyār
I praised a steed who lodged 'twixt Saýýār's abodes
and Ḥuṣayn, upon the towering hills.
And fortress with far-stretching heights is he.

O Naṣr, son of Sayyār, to your two hands has been entrusted
Ansar son of Saýýār – in thy two hands combined
the striking of heads in battle, along with generosity.
With generosity are strokes of death designed,

An orator of kings, whose steeds ever remain
Orator of kings whose steeds will never fail
at Bazān's frontier, in the shadows of gleaming weapons.
To keep Ghazzān's gap 'neath shades that ne'er decline

When morning's mead is bared of its gown of gloam
and, perched upon the saddle, he has a sandgrouse's glance,
And gleam of night-cloak on the saddlecloth doth shine

He sallies forth the horsemen's horse beneath his flag

Down lengthy vales made narrow by the lines.

You have united high honor, generosity, and forbearance, emulating
Thou hast united highness, generosity and clemency –
your father's slaying of hunger for every hungry soul.
Thy sire's example followed banishing all poverty.

And you are the generous one, son of the generous one, and a lord
Thou art the steed son of a steed and lord
of true lords and bald-headed men of mature years.
Of lords of probity, old men of high degree

And you are a man: if asked for bounty, you give it
Thou art a man who if asked for bounty grants it freely
abundantly; and if you intercede, you are the finest intercessor.
Abundant, and if interceding turns the best referee
