لِكَلبٍbelonging to Kalb حَصىًpebbles (a multitude) لاnot يَحسِبُcounts الناسُthe people قِبصَهُits multitude
وَأَكثَرُand more numerous مِنthan كَلبٍKalb عَديداًin number نَصيرُهاits ally
Kalb's numbers are like pebbles, a multitude people cannot count;
And its ally is more numerous than Kalb:
قَبائِلُtribes ضَمَّتهاgathered them together قُضاعَةَQuda'a مِنهُمُamong them
هُذَيمٌHudhaym وَجَسرٌand Jasr حينَwhen يَطموsurges نَفيرُهاtheir mustered host
Tribes that Quda'a has gathered together, among them
Hudhaym and Jasr, when their mustered host surges.
سَيُرهَبُwill be cowed مِنby حَيَّيthe two clans of قُضاعَةَQuda'a مَنwhoever عَوىhowled

Those who howl will be cowed by Quda'a's two clans—
Those dawn-roaming lions whose roar is directed at them.
إِذاif حِميَرٌHimyar قيلَit is said اِحسُبوهاcount them فَإِنَّهاthen indeed they are

قَليلٌfew فَكَلبٌbut Kalb فَاِحسُبوهاso count them كَثيرُهاtheir multitude
If it is said of Himyar, 'Count them,' they are
Few; but Kalb—so count them—is their multitude.
أَلَمdid ... not? تَكُbe أَرباباًlords عَلىover الناسِthe people حِميَرٌHimyar
لَيالِيَduring the nights مَنwhoever عَزَّoverpowered الرِجالَthe men أَميرُهاtheir ruler
Were Himyar not lords over the people,
In nights when whoever overpowered men was their ruler?
