فَماso not أَناI إِلّاexcept مِنكُمُof you ماas long as تَعَلَّقَتholds on
حَياتيmy life إِلىuntil اليَومِthe day الَّذيwhich أَناI صائِرُهbound to reach it
So I am but one of you, as long as it holds on—
My life—until the day that I am bound to reach.
وَماand not لِيَfor me شَيءٌanything كانَwould يوفيrepay in full بِنِعمَةٍfor a favor
عَلَيَّupon me لَكُمyours مِنfrom فَضلِbounty ماthat which أَناI شاكِرُهgrateful for it
And I have nothing that could fully repay a favor
You have bestowed on me, from the bounty for which I am grateful.
وَلَوand if أَنَّthat نَفساًa soul ليof mine تَمَنَّتwished سِوىother than الَّذيwhat
لَقيتُI received لَكانَthen would have been الدَهرُTime بيthrough me ذَلَّwas humbled عاثِرُهits stumbling one
And had a soul of mine wished for anything other than what
I have received, Time’s stumbling one would have been brought low through me.
