Merv of Khurasan wept in anguish when she saw

a Bahili there, after the house of al-Muhallab.

She took the short-nosed skunks in exchange

for every prized, untamed camel-stallion wearing a sword,

radiant, as though the full moon were beneath his garments,

noble in descent from his noble mother and father.

So now God has restored the adornment of her palaces

to her, and relief for the supplicant who repeatedly cries out:

horsemen, mighty strikers, while upon the horses mingles

the fresh blood of the fiery avenger.

    وَلَيسوا بِفُحّاشٍ عَلى الناسِ أَكلُبِ

    When they sit, their presence graces the assembly;

nor are they foul-mouthed curs toward people.
