فَحُبُّكَfor love of you أَغشانيmade me visit بِلاداًlands بَغيضَةًhateful
إِلَيَّto me وَرومِيّاًand a Roman بِعَمّانَin Amman أَقشَراruddy and hairless
For love of you has brought me to lands hateful
to me, and to a ruddy, hairless Roman in Amman.
فَلَوand if كُنتُI were ذاpossessing نَفسَينِtwo souls إِنif حَلَّbefell مُقبِلاًapproaching

And if I had two souls—if there came, advancing,
upon one of them, before I reached you, blood-red death,
حَيَيتُI would live بِأُخرىthrough the other بَعدَهاafter it إِذwhen تَجَرَّمَتhad completed

I would live through the other after it, once it had completed
its span; perhaps my soul through it would be granted long life.
إِذاًthen لَتَغالَتwould surely race ahead بِالفَلاةِacross the wilderness رِكابُناour riding camels

Then our riding camels would surely race across the wilderness,
toward you, carrying us, striding with a vigorous gait.
