غَفَرتُI forgave ذُنوباًoffenses وَعاقَبتُهاand punished them
فَأَولىso woe لَكُمto you ياO بَنيsons of الأَعرَجِal-A‘raj
I forgave offenses—and punished them.
I forgave offenses and punished them.
So woe to you, O sons of al-A‘raj!
So woe to you, O sons of al-A‘raj!
تَدِبّونَyou creep حَولَaround رَكِيّاتِكُمyour wells
دَبيبَthe creeping of القَنافِذِthe hedgehogs فيin العَرفَجِthe ‘arfaj shrubs
You creep about your wells
You creep around your wells,
as hedgehogs creep through the ‘arfaj scrub.
Like hedgehogs creeping among the ‘arfaj shrubs.
فَلَولاso were it not for اِبنُthe son of أَسماءَAsma’ قَلَّدتُكُمI would have garlanded you
قَلائِدَnecklaces ذيone possessed of عُرَّةٍfilth مُنضَجِfully ripened
Were it not for Ibn Asmāʾ, I would have hung upon you
So, were it not for Ibn Asma’, I would have garlanded you
the collars of a creature with festering mange.
With necklaces from one well seasoned in filth.
