لَوif كُنتُI had been فيin الثَأرِthe vengeance الَّذيwhich كُنتَyou were طالِباًseeking
كَفِتيانِlike the young men of عَبسٍʿAbs أَوor شَبابِthe youths of صُباحِṢubāḥ
Had I been, in the vengeance you were seeking,
like the young men of ʿAbs or the youths of Ṣubāḥ,
لَأَذهَبتُI would have removed عَنكَfrom you الخُزيَdisgrace فيin كُلِّevery مَشهَدٍencounter
وَأَصبَحتَand you would have become لاnot يَلحىreproaches فَعالَكَyour deeds لاحِa reprover
I would have rid you of disgrace in every encounter,
and you would have found no reprover censuring your deeds.
وَآخِرُand the final outcome ماwhat أَلقَتcast forth يَداكَyour two hands بِهَذِهِwith this
وَنَحّاكَand thrust you aside إِذwhen حاوَلتَyou attempted أَمرَكَyour aim ناحِone who thrusts aside
And this is the final outcome of what your own hands have wrought:
someone thrust you aside when you tried to pursue your aim.
وَماand not كانَhe would be إِنif لَمdid not يَأخُذِhe exacted الحَقَّwhat was rightfully due مِنهُمُfrom them
جِراحٌJirāḥ عَلىconcerning مَقصوصَةٍa shorn woman بِجِراحِa true Jirāḥ
Nor, if he did not exact his due from them, would
Jirāḥ be a true Jirāḥ in the matter of a shorn woman.
