قَدindeed كانَthere was بِالعِرقِat al-ʿIrq صيدٌgame لَوif قَنِعتَyou were content بِهِwith it
قَد كانَ بِالعِرقِ صيدٌ لَو قَنِعتَ بِهِ
فيهِin it غِنىًsufficiency لَكَfor you عَنwithout needing دُرّاجَةِfemale francolin الحَكَمِal-Hakam
فيهِ غِنىً لَكَ عَن دُرّاجَةِ الحَكَمِ
There was indeed game at al-ʿIrq, had you been content with it,
enough for you to do without al-Hakam’s francolin.
وَفيand in العَوارِضِthe stricken camels ماnot تَنفَكُّyou cease تَجمَعُهاyou gather them
وَفي العَوارِضِ ما تَنفَكُّ تَجمَعُها
لَوif كانَwas يَشفيكَrelieves you لَحمُmeat الإِبلِthe camels مِنof قَرَمِcraving for meat
لَو كانَ يَشفيكَ لَحمُ الإِبلِ مِن قَرَمِ
And there is enough in the stricken camels you never cease gathering,
if camel meat could relieve your craving for meat.
