وَلاnor حاتِماًHatim أَزمانَin the days when لَوif شاءَwished حاتِمٌHatim
وَلا حاتِماً أَزمانَ لَو شاءَ حاتِمٌ
مِنَof المالِwealth وَالأَنعامِand livestock كانَwould have been لَهُfor him وَفرُabundance
مِنَ المالِ وَالأَنعامِ كانَ لَهُ وَفرُ
Nor Hatim, in the days when, had Hatim wished,
Neither Hatem nor time if Hatem willed
he would have had wealth and livestock in abundance.
Of wealth and livestock would have his fill
وَماand not قَبَضَتclenched كَفّاًa palm يَدٌa hand دونَin front of مالِهاits wealth
وَما قَبَضَت كَفّاً يَدٌ دونَ مالِها
لِتَمنَعَهُto withhold it إِلّاexcept that سَيَملِكُهُwill possess it الدَهرُTime
لِتَمنَعَهُ إِلّا سَيَملِكُهُ الدَهرُ
And no hand has clenched a palm over its wealth
Nor grasping hand from wealth withhold
to withhold it, but Time will take possession of it.
All Time will own what men may hold
