Are you not, you who are the sword of Banu Tamim,

a protector to my charge if I grant him refuge?

Yes—so he kept his pledge and released Taliq for me

and Abd Allah, when both feared captivity.

And he stood in the place of a gallant man of Mazin,

so he made safe the one I sheltered and the one who gave shelter.

And you, Banu Hakam, have always been capable protectors

of your people against great calamities.

Tamim makes you bear her crushing burdens,

and her perils plunge you into deep waters.

And she binds her cause to you whenever

the sparks of war are stirred and fly far and wide.
