أَفي طَرَفَي عامٍ وَكيعٌ وَمُحرِزٌ
وَأَنّىand whence? لَناfor us مِثلاهُماtwo like them لِتَميمِfor Tamīm
وَأَنّى لَنا مِثلاهُما لِتَميمِ
Wakīʿ and Muḥriz—at the two ends of a single year?
Two years have passed and I am dejected and safeguarded
And where can we find two like them for Tamīm?
How can we find two more years like them, O Tameem
سِماكانِtwo Simāk stars كاناthey both used to يَرفَعانِthey both raise بِناءَناour edifice
سِماكانِ كانا يَرفَعانِ بِناءَنا
وَمِردىand a bludgeon حُروبٍwars جَمَّةٍmany وَخُصومِand adversaries
وَمِردى حُروبٍ جَمَّةٍ وَخُصومِ
Two Simāk stars who used to raise our edifice,
They were pillars supporting our structure
And a bludgeon in many wars and against foes.
And strongholds against hordes of wars and foes
