May God curse a watering place whose keeper is Hanbal,

behind an egg-laden she-lizard beneath the smooth rock.

Whenever you reach the water, draw near to Hanbal

with a bowl of roasted grain meal or a bowl of flour.

I felt pity for the wayfarers because of a man

who drains waterskins and buries wells.

And if al-Hajjaj knew of your doings, no sale would be made

by your right hand of water to a Muslim for a price.

You would surely face mutilation, or be found crippled,

dragging yourself along, walking with Ibn Wadin's gait.
