Hold back from the matter—you were ignorant
Be gentle about the matter of which you were ignorant
Of its causes—until its consequences unfold.
Of its reasons until its consequences fade away

Perhaps al-Dahna's protected pasture will be too narrow for a rider,
Perhaps the world becomes too narrow for a rider
When he sets out morning or evening, his riding camels travel by night.
When he sets out or returns with his mounts

I see Zahdam, whose deeds cannot be matched
I see an ascetic who cannot do his asceticism
By a base man, nor can the gain he earns be attained.
Wretched, nor the earning which he earns
