My plight is like yours, O blackbird.

My state is like yours, O evildoer

Life has grown cruel, so we are all captive.

Life is harsh, so we're all imprisoned

فالعسكر المفجوع ضاق بحبسه

فالعسكر المفجوع ضاق بحبسه

وابن الرشيد بسجنه موتور

وابن الرشيد بسجنه موتور

For grief-stricken al-Askar chafes at his confinement.

The grieving soldier is weary of his jail

And Ibn al-Rashid is aggrieved in his prison.

And Al-Rashid's son is pained by his prison

الأسد تؤسرُ والنعاج طليقةٌ

الأسد تؤسرُ والنعاج طليقةٌ

والصقر يهوي والغراب يطيرُ

والصقر يهوي والغراب يطيرُ

Lions are taken captive, while ewes are free.

The lion is shackled while the sheep roam free

And the falcon falls, while the crow flies.

The falcon swoops while the crow soars high
