1. You reprimanded me without excuse or apology
You were excessive in blaming me and deficient in excusing me

2. When my tears flow in response to the blamer
The coherence of passion lies in that prose

3. You fought me, so I seek victory in the war of the passionate
I ready my weapons, so grant me triumph

I see no benefit, yet it tempts me

How many laugh while their eyes weep from contemplation

15. The delicious wine is followed by a hangover
But the deception lies in its sweetness

And reaches what my secret reaches not

17. A bearer of adornment, neglectful of it
The charm of the goblet lies in its sorcery

18. Why deny the moon its place,
Hiding it behind your veil by your mouth

Delivering some of its abundance back to that sea

Adornment atop adornment, pearls atop pearls

21. A vision appeared showing the world's bloom
Leaving me helpless, living in that bloom

I marveled at news that falls short of the truth

23. An image appeared, nay a revelation descended
Its clarity made prostration incumbent in gratitude

24. I praised the Lord of the Worlds because I saw them
Assembled without the Gathering

25. Their sustenance apportioned from His right hand
Does a drop seek other than drops on Judgment Day?

26. I swear had they not been pillars of glory
From the groups of pillars brought forth that Day

27. I would have been amazed at the secrets of Resurrection
For I saw oceans bursting forth from the sea

28. Your abode in the world, your hand in life
Your shade in the refuge, your time in eternity

29. Whoever propose to the beautiful maiden
You make the dowry honorable

30. With wisdom without weakness, rule without desire
Fierceness without panic, generosity without excuse

31. A hand that withdraws only dyed
In blood, whether in war or peace, with blood and dust

32. You purified a land you tread upon
We see no pause in driving away the enemy

33. Banners red from piercing the foe
At night, from fires, red banners fluttering

34. Those strong souls, if they march
Would traverse Egypt's breadth with aid

35. You clothe the mountain goats in blood they display
The undying fire rises over the river

36. As if your foes are enraged at the spear
Any bold one confronting them meets his back

37. How your hands nourished spears whose branches
Are resolve, though the clouds need no rain

38. Protectors as if the sun were their woman
Concealing her despite their wealth in tents

39. They sought the virgin heights and her aid
With barren plains, while below are green swords

40. Judgment with vision, pardon with power
Charity in measure, words in measure

41. The Merciful preserved your mention in the Tablet
You were blessed to be the secret of that remembrance

42. They received tablets like Moses' miracle
As he received tablets by the Divine Decree

43. Noah sailed when the flood surged
In his ship of boards sailing the Divine Command

44. You are firm-fixed by boards of resolute oath
Upon them warriors stand arranged in line

45. One concerned for them warned
But warning helps not when fate arrives

46. Telling them, "You slept, rouse not the enemy"
Had they not roused, the birds would sleep deprived of flight

47. When they cried for help, no aid came
For who can aid one in the talons of the eagle?

48. Stop trouble before it spreads
And beware the sparks of fire before they ignite

49. Most harm to a man comes from his dear ones

So dawn leads to night and delight to desolation

51. You came with gentle creatures and mountain goats
Smoother than delight, rougher than boulders

52. With an army - when armor shows their steel
You would think it starlight gleaming in the dark

You see night turned to day as it flows

54. When their banners shake and cluster
Birds flock to them as if to nest

55. Your face appeared, illuminating armor
The light of union in darkness of separation

You graced night withodd numbers in prayer

67. Time's hands will erase all wealth
Save what you store with God of treasure

68. I deem the new moon a guest that lodged
Newcomers to this human at your abode

69. You turned the wheel of fate away from us though they saw
Their crescent like an eyebrow without complete light

70. Many are the slain whose starry night
Though slain, arranged in prose

71. You vie with the heavens though you are of earth
Seeing in it your starry lights

72. How wondrous - a garden seeking fire's warmth
When all gardens seek only rain

73. Tables from which cities are fed
Their bounty beyond enumeration

74. No fault but mankind's poverty before it
To it heads the call of generosity though none depart

75. It is a Pilgrimage answering the call of the beloved
A lasting Pilgrimage without crowds

76. Virtues that narrated their tale to the dawn
Though not of the dark night's concealment

77. Your exploits everywhere are famed
Eternalized between the ruins like the immortal

78. In every land are relics of your call
No narratives have altered with the ages

79. When you marched to the Gulf to conquer it
I marveled that seas flowed into a stream

80. As I'm amazed you repaired all cracks
With the crushing blow at Khasir

81. You gave generously, and the generous gave
We guests of munificence in your abode

82. Your Nile came before the Nile
While the Nile was busy with flood and ebb

83. How many beautiful gifts I have from you
My only fault is being unable to thank

84. If you lighten my shackles, you weigh down my back
If you cheer my secret, you burden my thoughts

85. O sky, you chose my land and made it fruitful
Your rain deserves part of thanks for the harvest

86. Think you I conceal gifts?
Does not the earth reveal secrets?

87. If the garden denied the clouds their rain
The blooms would shame it for withholding

88. Hear the loved one's behests
When stinginess of hearing is like deafness

89. You rise above grandeur though submit to the Master
By deeming yourself a slave fully to the Greatest

90. Say to the nights: I attained union without pilgrimage
Say to hopes: I attained without patience

91. Hopes suffice that I was watered without life
Pilgrimage suffices that I was guided without dawn

92. This grace shows your merit to all
Just as pearls are found in the depths of the sea

93. Still you ask the excused to thank you
While they are busy with thanks beyond plenty

94. Nights cannot harm you, for they
Fear you while fearing for the free

95. How we and they have betrayed them
Knowing their treachery

96. Disease told morning of its woes
Though not of the dark night's concealment

97. Your exploits in their setting out
And eternity between the ruins
