1. The men called upon him and his sword called upon him
In their plight, O Dhul-Faqar and O Ali

2. As if its strikes were his garb
As support for the sent Prophet

3. And their skulls revolved beneath the stars
The horses strode among them beneath the bows

4. And their forelocks tossed like the swaying heads of camels
They descended from the paths of youth at an abode

5. His fortresses were not like others’ fortresses
Rather he dismounted the back of his steed at a fortress

6. Allah is your helper striking with the blade
So you made it strike, O striker with the sharp blade

7. And the noble of spear-thrusting ancestry
He was never one who would thrust from behind or unprepared

8. So I see the tongue of the sword elucidating him
Whenever you came with intricate ironsmithing

9. We took the four before Spring, not
Attributing it to the month of early Spring

10. And our crescent, which is the crescent itself
Does not settle in place as we see it settled

11. His beautiful gifts come all at once
And come broadly from the thick of praise

12. He gave you before asking and after
What you wished for and what you did not wish

13. His gift comes even if you did not come to him
It must come whether you asked or did not ask

14. You were quick in generosity and are no delayer
And I was true in gratitude thus no nullifier

15. Generosity is above words an asset
So praise is no debater but recorder

16. And I praised the People of the House from you with what
The men testified that House was mine

17. Who can fulfill even the least of your rights
For the one who increases in it is like the diminishor

18. And it is happiness in the sky, so if you wished
You would have lanced it, lancing with the bare headed lance

19. A face whose sun descended from the sky
And the sun is forever mentioned as having descended

20. And it wove between the clouds of spears hoping
To gain a glance of his veiled brow

21. And hoping in the full moon of your war to gain warmth
So make room for it in the stance of the shaded one
