وَوَجدتُ بَعدَهُم التَوى أَثَرا
2. They left imprints of their homes
Upon my eyes and longing in my heart
٢. تَرَكوا عَلى عَيني دِيارَهُمُ
وَعَلى فُؤادي الشَوقَ وَالفِكَرا
3. They departed with a light I do not ask for
Neither sun nor moon after them
٣. ظَعَنوا بِنورٍ لَستُ أَسأَلُهُ
لا الشَمسَ بَعدَهُم وَلا القَمَرا
4. Whom can I blame for your aloofness?
My fortune, the slanderer, or fate?
٤. مَن ذا أُعاتِبُ في صُدودِكُمُ
حَظّي أَمِ الواشي أَمِ القَدَرا
