1. My heart fears to be reproached,
And who makes the deaf hear the prayer?

2. In your love I forgot every hand that intended to harm me
Will you forget praise for doing good?

3. Through you I reached the earth during days of blame
And during days of content I attained the sky

4. When you reward a benefactress with goodness
What integrity regards that but fidelity?

5. So where is virtue when they say, “He did wrong to one who did him wrong”?
And how much did affection excuse you out of love

6. And wonder at you that it cast off all restraint?
And his heart fills up, so it overflows with blame

7. As a rainfall may fill up a vessel.
So if I’m rewarded with estrangement instead of union

8. And instead of gentleness, harshness
Then may the clouds, when they forget the meadows they watered,

9. Not cease calling out nor cut off their rain.
And he hears those blaming him with a heart unchanged

10. And refuses among you anything but refusal.
And were you to anticipate his demanding justice he would promise it

11. Then fail to keep the promise and wait for destiny to take its course
You judged however you wished the heart of a slave.

12. You judged destinies as you willed.
No, by God, my eyes looked nowhere but you

13. Even if my blame made blood flow from you
For if your good pleasure appears in the evening, it appeared in the morning

14. While displeasure only appeared at night
I swear I shall not cease to meet you until

15. God makes lawful for me to meet you
When prohibitions throng around my passion

16. It refuses anything but transgression, not desisting
I remembered your eminence at every state

17. And you were to it the highest of the high
So your glory, when veils are lifted, rises high

18. And your good news, when the full moon appears
Your bounty, when a rain cloud draws near

19. And your power, when a star rises
Your horses, when darkness covers them

20. And your victory, when dawn illuminates
Behold, through your hand, you brought benefit

21. A secret gift that when evening came was a covering
His excuses liken benefaction to a sin

22. So you cannot tell whether he did good or evil
The fairest sight on earth to me is his humility

23. Though it attained the sky
Behold, through you a generous hand

24. Kept us company in its shade eternally, in winter and summer
Before it the meanings’ army marched

25. When it shook the standard with the pen.
And how many requests fled from us in shyness

26. But it called to them and they answered the call
It is the sword the swords of the resourceful gained sharpness from

27. The sword that dispelled darkness when unsheathed
When cheapness prevailed among the noble for a time

28. Buying and selling flourished among them
So the lasting benefit of this one made long sojourn

29. While the torrent of that one passed away, arid
They were not devoid of comfort through it, and as for

30. Buying for them, it did not lack expensiveness
What I gave you of my expression remains

31. While many gifts vanished into nothingness
It gives its day, tomorrow, yesterday

32. A request, a promise, a new beginning
It rolls up its sleeve to rise over a free man

33. And does not fold up its pillows to recline
When will praise of you be sufficient

34. And who will regard it as fulfillment of duty to you?
How often you brought them white-faced with thirst

35. And how often you restored them red, sated
How much flashing light you brought out in the morning

36. And retreating stars in the evening
To you I wed her, the loveliest bride

37. May she never lack sons or affluence
Where is the pearl from it, since it is unique,

38. When the rivals found no peer?
You filled my hands, may I ransom your hands, with wealth

39. So if I stay silent water is in my mouth
And so I fled in panic to a physician

40. Through whom against despair I found healing
Let the days know that through it I attained

41. From the earth to the sky
If merit were dropped from minds

42. People would all be equal
When their swords adorn themselves with hands

43. You see the disease has settled in the medicine
Leave the two lies in word and deed

44. For I have seen them both as one
So a lie in words is deemed absurd

45. While a lie in deeds is called hypocrisy
Don't grieve for one who caused you grief

46. Nor despair over a people that did evil
Don't pursue it with a sick heart

47. Nor pursue it with weeping eyes
Don't shorten your gaze to relics

48. Through which you were wretched so you resembled them in pardon
I have a soul that, even if a loved one

49. Departed the world, did not depart consolation
Imagine that I am the doctor of cares, I will remain

50. So how can I expect to remain?
I have known time, would that knowledge were ignorance

51. So neither hope that persists nor tranquility
So let no water in faces deceive you

52. For intellect settled is what stills thirst
How much an echo resembled in hearing a sound

53. And a mirage the eye saw as water
We found in contentment what kingdom that

54. Through it the poor become wealthy
No ground complained of my feet's tread

55. Roaming in quest, nor aggression
I neither fear procrastination from the days

56. Nor hope to gain from the world
I and cravings are like lightning

57. Its flashes shame me into shyness
I came forward in it last

58. And protected the troops by walking behind
To preserve the water in the flats of my cheeks

59. I pour disgrace upon its plains
It benefited you to turn them this way and that

60. Would that they were passions and hearts tossed by love!
I see your tearing of gifts as bundles

61. And the heights of humility as arrogance
You remained for us despite the gloom of nights

62. Giving us purity despite the gloom
And bringing us good news that changes

63. The confusion of hope into guidance
I saw extravagance in luxury as deprivation

64. And refusal in smoothness as bestowal
Its right hand is blamed for wealth

65. That the eye saw in its palms as water
So you were not late in repaying

66. For the world did not satisfy you with repayment
We accompanied in your shade hearts

67. That became empty, and hands filled from you
You possessed Heaven, hearts, and earth

68. In prayer, loyalty, or praise
And praise immortalized you despite the tyranny of Fate

69. For this art never knew extinction
Your name alone sufficed as proof for it

70. When they extended the ground they termed it abundance
What’s above dust is counted as from it

71. So do not disdain dust and disdain life
Accompany us in your shade, so hearts
