1. Return to discarding, O my heart's inclination, return
Go back to the art of rejection again

2. What use is pondering, O steed
When you've intended the past nights

3. Leave the prayer rugs in the mosque as provisions
Don't consider the vacant centuries

4. You remain praying on the ashes
Yet to you, religion is worthless

5. Leave your ink, gum and pen
No use in conversation and medicine

6. You've racked your brain with people's heads
Yet your knowledge hasn't changed for the better

7. Your lineage spans various lands
With glimmers and marginalia on one side

8. And the value of interpretation comes to you generously
While you buy a slave girl with paltry coins

9. Al-Shāṭibī's work contains locusts
While the dregs of Ibn Ḥajar's is pure

10. Al-Tadhakkur can produce guidance
Yet you associate al-Kafiyya with the Greatest

11. Nahj al-Balāgha provides proper living
Even if erased, still a pleasant life

12. In times of recession, you can buy Al-Shifāʾ
When it reaches two conditions of purity

13. You remain in knowledge like a tick
Ever diligent with high aspirations

14. They say you've been prevented from approaching, O pillar
We've not heard of a woman you've drawn near

15. Not all who love attain bliss
Nor is boldness' fragrance like lies

16. Neither the scent of amends equals rot
Nor is the West's authority like the precious

17. Nor is one gentle in passion's lead
Like one whose affection is harsh

18. Nor the coarse whose nature is resolute
Like the refined, gentle in character

19. Nor one inspired to kindle unrest
Like one whose ingenuity is astute

20. Neither will contrived works have pillars
Nor the abundant Euphrates be like a torrent

21. The blows of blacksmiths don't catch white eggs
He who desires lasting wellbeing

22. Nor is the slender steed like the noble
Nor long lifespans like the auspicious

23. Nor one whose mould is taut
Like necks obedient and compliant
