1. Outpace the sun like a ray and cloak
And ask her, O sister, to cloak

2. This gloom has been long upon us and the state
The laughs of life in us we blame

3. Every night must be followed by dawn
So take not life to be constant

4. And copy the darkness of destinies as a dawn
Radiant, enchanting, talented light

5. And let the Nile, that silent laden
Frolic on the banks blithely

6. Or let me, if wounds have tired you
Exchange a greeting, my defeated passion

7. And call him, O friend of civilizations
A greeting like our infused love

8. O Nile, O eternal fellow obscure
Pardon if I knew not the kinsman

9. Your wings filled from the calamities of fate
That distort the daybreak as sunset

10. So blood burst into my existence
And flames poured in my blood

11. And I scorned life, burdened by oppression
And came like raging winds

12. Seeking glory through struggle, and building
With my bones its usurped place

13. And with me a nation torn limb from limb
Suffering partition and exile

14. A nation the nights have passed sentence on
With their strange destiny

15. Witnessing the birth of time and living
Defying its written fate

16. And God ordained that it be cheap
So it went on drinking life bitterly

17. And her sons, God forgive, were like her sons
Tormenting her with torture

18. They ruled the people against their sons’ wills
And revoked the constitution with a flash message

19. And lost rights with words untrue
And with silence, helpless or suspect

20. And they went on fooling around while the foreign
Arab hopes for their reason to disappear

21. How they secretly and openly aided him
To restore with him the terrible destiny

22. And aided and appealed to him so that
They crush the rebel and waste the noble

23. Their hopes deceived them and they ignored
The people’s purpose and allowed sins

24. So sleep, O Nile, or let them die
For beneath the ashes are ardent embers, youth

25. Say to the people who led peoples to glory
Once and never worried about disasters:

26. The distant past is gone, so ready
Yourselves for glory upon the present world

27. Egypt, mother of the world, and we her children,
For love of her we arched our backs

28. May God spurn us if we do not attain
Our usurped place

29. Enough are poverty, ignorance and disease we suffer,
Miserable in youth and old age

30. How can the peasant live in Egypt’s land
Sad, arid of life, woeful

31. And workers live more wretched than beasts
And from their best we feed our pockets

32. And there are those indulged, among whom is found
Evil when heard or answered

33. Who sing whenever the people’s blood spent on truth
Their spilled teardrop

34. It is logic that constrains minds
And though it spans as existence freely

35. So peace upon those settled in the temple of rule
Or let them be battles

36. For the people is a revolution that awakes
The complacent and revives hearts before bodies

37. And death is to live disgraced, confused plundered
Opinion, wandering, despoiled

38. And glory is that glory bow to you, robust
Full of daring life

39. And life, life is heart and right
So face time swaggering or afflicted
