1. The people feasted on food while we suffered hunger
We were stripped naked while they enjoyed warmth

2. They kept us ignorant and taught themselves to look at us
As legions of slaves among their protectors

3. My homeland Egypt, how can I live happily in it
When I am its peasant, living the life of an outcast

4. While the sons of clay dream in the night
Of a female slave singing and playing the lute

5. Their only concern in life is to kill the people
And cast its hopes into graves

6. We suffer so they can be happy, and a people
Whose minds are deranged by promises after promises

7. A world where justice cowers from it
And existence in it has wearied my existence

8. There is no master or slave on earth
So leave us be, master and slave!

9. And life is for the free nation
Above shackles and bondage

10. Such is the religion of the free in every generation
It is the religion of forefathers after forefathers
