1. Alone I stand upon this height
With my silent lute in hand

2. Contemplating life's strange beginning
And sensing its renewed start

Time's rings alternate

4. Though their making is unique
Past centuries and those to come

5. Are equal if we break the chains
Earth's children like its atoms small

6. Refuse their hues to change
Though pain and dreams unite them

7. Oneness they cannot arrange
I and you are one when you rise high

8. My being is fulfilled through you
All people are a handful of clay

9. So light cannot increase, don't rue
See how earth makes our fate the same

10. Our end and task so great
Dust that becomes molten steel

11. Is like dust that's potter's clay
My tavern is my inner world

12. Of hopes and pains the sum
My wine what melts of fervor

13. My cup is time that comes
Though unwilling fate has flung me

14. In a haze of events thick
It's the sea of life, surface and depths

15. Where hopes are wrecked and sunk
Wandering lost and confused

16. Between a life of pain and bliss
Destiny falls like storms

17. On mankind, its sacrifice
Excuse me if I do not know

18. What my goal or end might be
Truth loved itself and hid

19. In darkness and obscurity
When we shades tried to see it

20. With minds so blind and dim
Clay and darkness choked us

21. And we lost our guide to Him
We hope truth will unveil

22. Its veil and manifest
When we hope the One who made us

23. Will see us as we've guessed
And pity our foolishness

24. Poor creatures gone astray
Nothingness desires what

25. Lies beyond its grasp or way
People seek what always

26. Will from their grasp remain
The ancients despair killed

27. And the ignorance that drowned them
To want all things is nothing

28. The impossible makes you less
Leave the secret hidden

29. Don't ask how things came to pass
And if you want to live in bliss

30. Then take the world unaware
The unhappiest of the dead and living

31. Are those who live by philosophies
Wishing for death after life

32. Yet tortured by life's agonies
All creatures see them as brothers

33. But they're the father of those creatures!
Mocking life, hearing days

34. Like weepings make them laugh
Wandering while the path splits everywhere

35. Lost in thought, not reaching destinations
Taking precautions when content

36. May wring rain from the desert mirage
He counts men, though he is their peer

37. They know not he's their shepherd here
Say to him: In creation you

38. Are only a speck among specks
The unknown's end is to be

39. Prisoner of past and prospect
What is that unknown you perceive

40. In which the worldly lose their way?
I have no knowledge if my knowledge

41. Is ignorance of one I cannot see
Every creature comes from Him

42. And to Him goes when it ends
They described Him as they benefited

43. Ignorant of what their words pretend
And as much as they can bear they fear Him

44. And go praying He'll be pleased
The rebels among them say:

45. That unknown is but myth to me!
Beyond mind, for He is beyond finite

46. So reason wanders astray
He is sea, shores, clouds, pearl, pebble, water

47. And I'm a wave to fade away
I and others are of dust

48. Delusions what I crave and lies
Folly what I attain

49. Though I'm a king, clouds ever rise
What misery that I was born

50. More misery to remain
If the One in charge wanted

51. He could cure what our parents stained
They disobeyed and it was easy

52. To obey if Scripture hadn't hardened
Fate executes the will

53. And its grip is unforgiving
It's not you who made you and not you

54. Who wills, provides and is forgiving
So let your wild wave carry you

55. As the sea you roil meant you to go
Don't say "if only" when fate's arrow has flown

56. Mirage won't slake the thirst of one lone
Accept the loss, bliss is eternal illusion

57. An unanswered call to delusion
How I wished destinies to be

58. Something acted out by my eyes
But if they were mine, in my misery

59. I'd have given them to the suffering wretches
A throbbing heart scatters

60. A life of tears upon this pain
I was made for people so I want

61. No more for myself than what they gain
I shed tears to wet them

62. While laughing in my company
Perhaps they'll aim arrows to kill me

63. And I'll bless those murderers, bless them!
Except I love them and hope for them

64. The best guidance and faith sincere
I see them as flashes in my being

65. That refuse to rest, keep appearing
So whatever poetry comes to me

66. Inspired, raging or woeful
Let them sing it, for it's but

67. Some of what they feel and what makes them creative
How often I wished those two destinies

68. And acted them out for my barren eyes
But if they were mine, since I'm miserable
