1. You are the only Master I turn to, none other,
You created me when I was nothing before my existence,

2. And You made me witness what was hidden from me,
While the witness of the eyes is other than the True Witness.

3. You show me the signs of Your creation, that I am
Ancient, so my being in it is not new,

4. So the meaning of my existence in the meanings of its existence
Is like the meaning of my hymn in the words of my hymn.

5. And if my secret is essentially a Creator,
Then my secret in the universes existed before my witnessing.

6. You are Sublime, You clothed the meanings with appearances
That point to the Light there, far away,

7. Beyond the limits of the unseen, its radiance spills over
Upon a throbbing heart, very strained.

8. Appearances appear to the eyes and disappear,
While their highest mysteries are beyond my limits,

9. Veiled, if not for You, Your light, I would not know them,
So I would have lived with a mind, lost in existence.

10. It whispers to the souls the cooing of its passion
With constant management, restoring life.

11. You are Sublime, You created no constitution
Without wisdom to guide an intelligent heart,

12. So no particle in the universe, without it
Having a place of bowing down or place of prostration.

13. Think good thoughts of the Most High,
For He is the Lord of Favor and Planning,

14. And ask Allah for His bounty, for He is the Lord of
Bounty, and remember His easing of the difficult,

15. And beseech Him at all times,
For to Him is the final destiny of all.

16. Every instant, our Lord has breezes,
So expose yourself to them with a pure heart,

17. Do not let desire have a way over you,
For desire is the master of delusion and deception,

18. And destroy despair with hope, and submit,
And leave the whole matter to the All-Knowing, All-Aware.

19. Indeed, the worst of souls is a despairing soul
Whose discontent with fate is endless,

20. Its state in life is like the state of Iblis
Despairing of the Merciful, Forgiving.

21. Indeed, the meaning of Iblis is one who makes
Despair of Allah his share of matters.

22. We bid farewell to those we bid farewell, then we pass on
To what was jest like what was serious,

23. As if the departed were the sons of extinction,
While we, after them, are the sons of eternity.

24. We say, when will we repent while we disobey?
And we ask Him for salvation without effort,

25. And we forget Him and He remembers us, so we rebel,
And we strive in misguidance, without aim,

26. And we hope He will be a supporter for us
While we live in envy and hatred,

27. Exalted is Allah! How can He be a helper
To one persisting in misguidance, stubborn?

28. We neglected enjoining right until
It was as if enjoining right was forbidden,

29. The houses of truth are lamenting those who built them,
While the houses of vanity cannot be counted,

30. And justice among us is like a house
Of illusions, standing without pillars.

31. So if we wish, the early morning is like Zayd,
And if we wish, the early morning is other than Zayd.

32. The creature has no escape from his Lord,
In his bliss or in his plight,

33. In the ease of living or its difficulty,
In the heart being distant or its nearness.

34. How could it not, when He is the Powerful
For whom the creature has no authority alongside Him?

35. Is there any wealth lost except His bounty?
Or any beloved remaining except His love?

36. I stand at the door, so let me in
To purify myself with your grace and fellowship,

37. I stand at the door and will remain
Standing, so allow me and do not deprive me,

38. Give me security regarding my fate, when I spill
The tears of farewell from my eyes,

39. And look upon me before death with a
Sacred glance of the light of certitude,

40. And when I remember you, hear me,
And when I forget you, remind me.

41. Remind me, I will remember you, and if one
Day I fall asleep forgetting you, wake me up.

42. Do not say, "You disobeyed," or "You were not
Awaiting except for Us to take you by force,"

43. For my hope in you is the hope of a disgraced one
In the Mighty, by His power and strength,

44. And in you I seek refuge, and from you I hope for reward,
While my sins are upon my hands, and my debts upon me.

45. Indeed for me, in what you created, there is
An eternal place, before you created me,

46. And by My bounty, My mercy, and My compassion,
Forgiver of sins, I will erase your suspicions,

47. And by the secrets of grace, say, O My servants,
Crown Me, and please Me with acceptance,

48. For I am your servant, and I have none but you,
So be kind to me, by your bounty, and have mercy upon me.

49. Save me before the world drowns me
In its waves, the ship of my faith,

50. Your way is mercy, bounty, and pardon,
While disobedience and destruction are my affairs,

51. And if the likes of me have no share of
Your shelter, how intense is my agony!
