1. My neighbor, good morning
From my house to yours

2. Greetings I bear no ill will
Except to please the Creator

3. For He commanded, as you know
To have mercy for one's neighbor

4. You have the right to feel secure
From my sins and dangers

5. And I have the right that you
Cover my shame if it shows

6. Yet to you I complain
Of the injustice of my days

7. Month after month goes by
Year after year

8. And you do not hear my groans
Or have mercy on my pain

9. I starve while in your hand is bread
I knead with my dreams

10. And bake with my sighs
And eat with my delusions

11. Oh neighbor, how many dark nights
Like a grave, its blackness wraps me

12. And my children on my lap
I rock and make them weep

13. And I cry with them for my life
While you know not what we endure

14. So you are far from my eyes
And unaware of my poverty

15. And like other people, neighbor
I have a husband I wish were not

16. How hard our life is
With poverty and misery

17. While your wife lives in comfort
Never leaving her luxuries

18. Yet she keeps chiding me
With the tears her eyes pour

19. He who made you made me
As He willed and designed

20. Oh neighbor, the month has come
That I know so well

21. My whole life is Ramadan
Deprivation without end

22. I fear when Eid arrives
As it came for my son

23. While you have all you wish
And my poverty is all I own

24. I fear when Eid arrives
And the children call me

25. Father, life has passed
And we missed its joys

26. Everyone has feasts
While for us there are no Eid celebrations

27. And how often I told them to be patient
For God helps those in need

28. But patience does not soothe
The bitterness of deprivation

29. I fear for my dignity
That I lose it in disbelief

30. I fear for my wife's honor
That poverty forces her to sell it

31. And I wear the disgrace of life
After enduring patiently for so long

32. That I kill fearing starvation
Or steal when desperate

33. And increase my loss
With the sins I commit

34. Oh neighbor, I will meet the Lord
Of Hell and Paradise

35. And complain to Him of you
In the court of the Almighty

36. And ask Him by the right of the poor
To avenge me

37. And if you ask my forgiveness
I will forgive without hesitation

38. For He commanded, as I know
To have mercy for one's neighbor
