O my eyes, pour out streaming tears
for the horseman of horsemen in every clash.

O my eyes, if tears run dry, then pour forth
blood in torrents as the mourning women wail.

Will you two not weep for him who is looked to in battle,
who raises, with the horsemen, the dust of the gravelly plains—

Adi, brother to kindness in every winter,
and its dreaded horseman in close combat?

Time's daughters shot at him until they pierced him
with death's arrow—truly, death is the worst evening visitor.
وَقَدand indeed كانَhe used to يَكفيprovide for كُلَّevery وَغدٍlowly man مُواكِلٍdependent on others
وَيَحفَظُand he guards أَسرارَthe secrets of الخَليلِthe close friend المُناصِحِthe sincere adviser
And he would provide for every lowly dependent,
and guard the secrets of a sincere, well-wishing friend.

nor had any shackled man called on him in distress
to loosen bondage, or called on him in a worthy cause.

I wept for you, if it helps; never was I one
who would forget you, O son of the noblest, most eminent chiefs.
