You rose as the star Farqad rose,

But you, my lord, are the more radiant of the two.

With good fortune, you urge the mounts toward Egypt,

And eminence is but one of your servants.

    وعدت إليها فما تسهد

    You were absent from her, and she could not sleep;

And you returned to her; she was sleepless no more.

She sleeps in your shade, secure,

And your eye keeps watch in her sky.

She was indeed delighted to see you

In good health; we give thanks as she does.

The Nile holds out a hand to you in greeting,

And your hand greets him with gladness.

Both hands are models of generosity,

So we could not tell which was more generous.

From that hand the land drinks its fill,

And through this hand souls find joy.

May God never deprive Egypt of these two hands,

And may the prince remain as we have known him.
