    Sleep, my beloved, a sleep of bliss.

    The eyes of the flowers have fallen asleep.

    And all have slept, save wishes and the moon.

    Even the dew has slept, and the breezes.

    Sleep, my beloved, sleep.

    The river in the valley,

    And the branch and the blackbird,

    And the singing nightingale,

    And every living thing has slept, save the perfumes

    And the passion in my heart.

    Rise, my beloved; morning light has appeared,

    And revealed itself through Arabian jasmine and daisies.

    وَلِلصِّبا أَريج مِن الرُبى وَالخَليج

    And the rose in its calyx awoke with the morning.

    And youth has a fragrance from the hills and the gulf;

    It wafted over us as tidings, as though about us,

    Proclaimed by wild roses, jasmine, and henna.

    Rise, my beloved; the hand of darkness bade your cradle farewell.

    And the wine of dreams has made your cheek rosy.

    Return, my beloved; the flock has returned,

    And the houses and dwellings have grown dim.

    And bring to my heart, from spring,

    What the fragrance and songs have told.

    أَلوان

    The crimson of daylight has, in your cheeks,

    Colors;

    And from the nightingale's tenderness, your ears hold

    Melodies.

    يَلوحُ تَكوينُهُ عَلَيك

    And the blossom amid the trees' splendor—

    Its form appears upon you;

    I saw it, its fruit ripe, in your eyes.
