    يُنارُ بِهِ الحَلكُ الأَدهَمُ

    I wish for your eyes the crescent moon’s light,

    By which the deepest blackness is illumined;

    And for your hair, the blackness of night,

    In which the enamored lover loses his way.

    فَيَرحَمُ حُبّي وَلا يَظلُمُ

    I wish for your heart a noble love,

    That would show mercy to my love and not wrong it;

    And for your soul, dignity and forbearance,

    So whenever it sees a sinner, it shows clemency.

    I wish for your foot the night of existence,

    As a shoe whose hobnails are the stars,

    So that if one day you tread upon my breast,

    The bones within it may be illumined.
