لَيتَif only ليfor me قَلبَهُhis heart الخَليuntroubled
لَيتَif only فيin الروحِthe soul ليfor me تُقاهhis piety
If only I had his untroubled heart!
If only my soul held his piety!
لَيتَif only فيin مُقلَتيَّmy two eyes ليfor me
مُقلَتيهhis two eyes وَآحسرَتاهoh, my sorrow!
If only I had within my eyes
his eyes—oh, my sorrow!
فَأَرىso I see الصُبحَthe dawn يَنجَليunfolds
عَنto reveal شُعاعٍa ray منof الحُليjewels
Then I would see the dawn unfold,
revealing a ray of jewels,
ذَهَبِيٍّgolden مُكَلَّلِcrowned
بِلُجَينٍwith silver منfrom المِياهthe waters
golden, crowned
with silver from the waters.
وَأَرىand I see اللَهَGod كُلَّماwhenever
أُرسِلُI cast الطَرفَmy gaze فيinto السَماthe sky
And I would see God whenever
I cast my gaze into the sky.
إِنَّindeed فيهاin it لِمَنfor whoever سَماrises
بِالتَقىthrough piety صورَةَthe image الإِلهof God
Indeed, within it, for whoever rises
through piety, is the image of God.
