We are Eden, and they are a disquieting place,
We are a bliss and they are a dreadful place
where eyes and hearts have suffered.
Where eyes and hearts were tormented

Love poured God's mercy into us,
Love poured the mercy of God upon us
so radiance and fragrances surge through us.
So we are sprinkled with delight and fragrance

What color is it, as if it were the dawn in it
a pallor from remnants of the deep dawn!
With remains of the deep dawn, paleness

It is from your soul, the strange imagination

Its whiteness, dyed, becomes hidden

Where dew has set it aflame, or is it milk?

Or, on your cheeks, is the shadow of sins
from a harlot who came to you to repent?
Of an insolent who came to you repenting?

In my tongue the nightingale echoed

You said, 'In your beautiful silence is a tale
You said, in your beautiful silence, a talk

No gifted mouth has conveyed the like of it

So with my soul I heard what you did not say;
So by my soul I heard what you did not say

It is in my senses, inscribed

Then you kissed a little twig in your hands,
Then you kissed branches in your hands
and your outpoured heart flowed through it.
So your poured out heart flowed in it

I asked, 'What?' You said, 'A wreath of love.'
I said what? You said a wreath of love
Thus does the beloved honor the beloved.
Thus the lover honors the lover

But on my temple and heart will remain
your fresh branch, alive and tender.
Your fresh, moist branch, alive and fragrant
